What is the 2026 IRS standard mileage rate?

The 2026 IRS standard business-mileage rate is $0.725 per mile (IRS Notice 2026-10). Because the IRS revises this rate every year, confirm the current figure on IRS.gov before you file. This free log stores the rate in one cell, so if it changes you update a single number and every trip's deduction recalculates.

What does the IRS need a mileage log to show?

The IRS wants a contemporaneous log — records made at or near the time of each trip — showing the date, the miles driven, and the business purpose. A log rebuilt from memory months later does not meet that standard even if the miles were real. This template has a column for each of those, plus start/end odometer readings, so the miles are backed by numbers rather than estimates.

How the free log calculates your deduction

Type your start and end odometer for a trip and the Miles column subtracts them automatically. The Deduction column multiplies those miles by the 2026 rate, and a total row sums both columns, so you always see your running mileage deduction for the year. It is a calculator, not tax software — always confirm the treatment for your situation, and this is not tax advice.

Questions

Is this mileage log really free?

Yes. It is a free .xlsx download with no email signup. Use it and share it. The paid Rideshare Driver Tax & Mileage Tracker ($17) adds income, expenses and a quarterly tax set-aside on top.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive, right-click it, choose Open with → Google Sheets, then File → Make a copy for your own editable version. It also opens natively in Excel and LibreOffice.

Can I use it for Uber, Lyft or DoorDash miles?

Yes — any business driving. If you want fares, expenses and a per-platform net-earnings and tax view tied to the same miles, the Rideshare Driver Tax & Mileage Tracker is the upgrade.
