Free Invoice Tracker Template (Excel & Google Sheets)
A free invoice tracker for freelancers and one-person shops — no signup. List each invoice with its client, dates, amount and whether it is paid, and the sheet totals exactly how much is still owed to you.
What does an invoice tracker do?
An invoice tracker is a running list of the invoices you have sent, with a status on each, so you always know who still owes you money. This free version calculates an Outstanding amount per invoice (zero once you mark it Paid) and sums total invoiced against total outstanding at the bottom.
How the Paid / Unpaid status works
Each row has a Status cell. Type 'Paid' and that invoice's Outstanding drops to $0; leave it 'Unpaid' and its full amount counts toward the outstanding total. It is a plain-text status you control — no automation, no client login — which keeps the sheet simple to hand to an accountant.
When you need more than an invoice list
Tracking receivables is one job. If you also want to see monthly income, log business expenses, and set aside quarterly taxes on what you collect, the paid Side Hustle Income Tracker builds on this with those tabs and a dashboard. This is not financial advice.
Questions
Is the invoice tracker free?
Yes — a free .xlsx, no email needed. The Side Hustle Income Tracker ($12) is the paid upgrade that adds monthly income, expenses and a quarterly tax set-aside.
Does it create or send invoices?
No. It tracks invoices you have already sent and tells you what is outstanding. It is a bookkeeping sheet, not an invoicing app.
Excel or Google Sheets?
Either. Open the .xlsx in Excel or LibreOffice, or upload to Google Drive and open with Google Sheets, then File → Make a copy.
